Aims of the Programme:
The aims of the programme are as follows:
- Imparting the knowledge, skills, and judgement required to function at a professional level as a health and safety practitioner in the workplace.
- Developing a combination of technical and managerial skills necessary to design, develop and implement occupational health and safety management systems.
- Training occupational health and safety professionals in identifying, assessing and improving the working conditions and health of workers and improving their well-being and quality of life at work.
- Responding to the societal need of minimising the risk of harm and protecting citizens in their place of work.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the programme, the student will be expected to:
- Identify the reasons for occupational accidents, illnesses in the workplace and absenteeism.
- Interpret information and data to identify trends and issues in the workplace.
- Identify and monitor hazards by thoroughly analysing the working spaces and working conditions.
- Define the impact of human factor in health and safety activities.
- Guide businesses on the application of local, national and international regulations of the General System of Occupational Risks (ILO)and legislative requirements, industry standards, and best practices.
- Develop occupational health and safety management systems, policy and procedures ensuring compliance with current legislation and industry standards when implemented.
- Integrate health and safety-related measures and solutions, in collaboration with professionals from other disciplines, in order to minimize and prevent hazards at work.
- Conduct accident investigations to determine their root cause.
- Manage organisational change through health and safety principles within management systems, cultures, practices, and priorities.
- Assess the design, development and delivery of training and information for differing levels within the workplace.
- Use effective communication skills and methods to clearly convey regulatory and technical information and data to designated audiences.
- Achieve work priorities and goals individually and as a team member.
- Practice due diligence and employ ethical standards in all aspects of professional conduct.
- Use current technologies and applications for occupational health and safety suitable to the task.
